Everything visible, and even invisible things, intrinsically contains a relationship of cause and effect. God said, “Let there be light,” and there was simply light. He said, “Let the waters under the sky gather in one place so that dry ground may appear!”, and it happened just so.
The only exception to this rule is God himself. He exists because he exists. He is not the result of any cause. He is simply the “I Am Who I Am” (Exodus 3:14). There is no beginning, middle or end. He is infinite.
Did you know, or do you remember, what Jesus, as a man of flesh and blood, did before multiplying the loaves and fish? He looked up to heaven and gave thanks.
Jesus’ gratitude for what did not yet exist teaches us that being grateful concerns not only the present but also the future.
Gratitude is an act that sets in motion a future built through faith in the One who can accomplish all things.
Jesus brought into existence what did not exist, as though it already did. He gives thanks because his eyes already saw the future.
Gratitude is the cause. The intentionally generated future is the effect. Cultivate thanksgiving. As you give thanks, the miracle is being brought forth.
